PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol)

PETG is a modified version of PET plastic that offers an excellent balance of ease of printing, strength, and chemical resistance. It combines many of the best properties of both PLA and ABS.

Key Properties

  • Chemical resistance: Excellent resistance to chemicals and stress cracking
  • Food safe: FDA approved for food contact applications
  • Crystal clear: Available in transparent grades
  • Tough and durable: High impact resistance and flexibility
  • Recyclable: Can be recycled with other PET plastics

Printing Settings

SettingRecommended Value
Extruder Temperature220-250°C
Bed Temperature70-90°C (heated bed recommended)
Print Speed30-50 mm/s
Layer Height0.2-0.3mm
Cooling30-50% fan speed

Best Use Cases

  • Food containers: Bottles, food storage containers
  • Medical applications: Non-critical medical devices
  • Protective equipment: Face shields, safety guards
  • Mechanical parts: Gears, brackets requiring chemical resistance
  • Transparent parts: Light guides, protective covers

Printing Tips

  1. Slower speeds: Reduce speed for better layer adhesion
  2. Moderate cooling: Too much cooling can cause poor adhesion
  3. Avoid over-extrusion: Can cause stringing and poor surface quality
  4. Bed adhesion: Sticks well to clean glass or PEI sheets
  5. Storage: Keep dry to prevent quality issues

Advantages Over Other Materials

  • Easier than ABS: No warping issues or strong odors
  • Stronger than PLA: Better impact resistance and heat tolerance
  • Chemical resistance: Superior to both PLA and ABS
  • Food safety: Unlike ABS, safe for food contact
